Yakima Duck Banding, Skeet & BBQ, Yakima, WA
Date Set, August 23rd, ALL DAY EVENT!
OK, so the question at hand is, "What are you doing August 23rd, 2008?" The CBQF will be at The Yakima Indian Reservation for our annual Duck & Quail bird banding habitat project. Last year, we had 7 members (and Katie) attend this event. This is a GREAT family event, and for us hunters, we get to see some great hunting spots and pick Nathan & Tracy's brains (Yakima Indian Reservation Biologists) on where to hunt! ... ~~~ AFTER THE BANDING, I repeat, AFTER THE BANDING ~~~ ...we will join volunteer members from the Yakima PF chapter for a PF/QF Skeet & Trap BBQ! The cost ? $20 ... (Bring your OWN shells!) ... I figure we will have the same type of shooting competition setup as we did with our event. Does it get ANY better than a old fashion Bird Banding Skeet & Trap BBQ? ... I think not !
CBQF @ The 2008 Kid's & Family Outdoor Expo, Kennewick, WA
55 NEW YOUTH MEMBERS SIGNED UP!
This past weekend, the CBQF attended the 2008 Kids & Family Outdoor Expo in Kennewick, WA, May 16-17th. The Expo was geared toward getting youth more involved with the outdoors, and Quail Forever "No Child Left Indoors" program. There is a growing concern that we need to unplug kids from electronics and turn them on to the natural world. And we need to do it now before we lose a generation of young people. Working with chapters, members and conservation partners, Quail Forever will provide opportunities for youth and their families to be involved in outdoor activities through youth habitat projects, outdoor events and community events/activities.
First I would like to thank the members of PF/QF that helped out in the booth for the expo. Yakima PF Members Larry Morgan, Bob Craft & "Lola" the lab made the trek and helped out Friday with the crowds. CBQF Member Mike Wetzler & "Sadie" also helped, along with our chapter biologist Kraig Paulson on both Friday/Saturday. CBQF Member Garth Lien helped out Saturday. My lab Cooper also showed up on Saturday to ham it up. HUGE thank you goes out to Garth, who made a very nice display box showing the 6 different species of quail that call the United States home. It took a beating but its still ticking !
Friday was the big day, numbers wise, as the expo took in 3200 kids. Kraig took pictures, which will be posted on the website here soon. "Wave on Wave" is an easy way to describe the situation Friday from 9:00am to 12:00am. Saturday was more laid back, with a total count of around 2200 people coming in between 9:00 and 4:00.
Total, we signed up 55 new youth members into the chapter, and this was by FARRRRRRRR a very successful event for our chapter.
